Cheshire to get £47m scheme to relieve congestion

A scheme to alleviate congestion in Cheshire is among 76 projects across the country to receive £244m funding from the Government.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has released extra funding of £47m for the Eastern Bypass scheme in Middlewich, which will open up more land for employment nad create 2,000 jobs.

Grayling said: “These schemes will provide much needed upgrades to essential local roads up and down the country, cutting congestion, improving safety and shortening journey times for drivers.

“They will also help boost regional economic growth by unlocking jobs and supporting vital new housing development.”

Funding for all the schemes is being provided from the National Productivity Investment Fund and the Large Local Majors fund.

Other North West schemes covered by the funding are: Warrington East Phase 3; Macclesfield Movement Strategy Phase 1; Omega Highway Gateways – Junction Improvement Package (Warrington); A554 Tower Road Civilised Street Scheme, Birkenhead; A556 Gadbrook Business Park Junction Upgrade (Cheshire West and Chester; Whitehaven North Sshore Access in Cumbria; M55 Heyhouses Link Road (Lancashire); A560 Cheadle corridor (Stockport); A59 Liverpool City Gateway; Yeadon Way access route upgrade (Blackpool); Fabric Borders Blackburn; North West Crewe access; Mancunian Way Princess Parkway.
