A family-owned funeral director based in Bury is set to create jobs after acquiring larger premises.

Paul Williams Independent Funeral Directors has secured £232,000 in funding from Santander Business Banking for the relocation to Bury New Road, Whitefield, which it says will enable the business to save on rental costs and allow for the employment of additional staff.

Established in 2006, Paul Williams has grown into a leading regional funeral directors, with a growing client base in the North West and across the UK.

While the business looks after all aspects of funeral arranging, it also offers international repatriation and long-distance transportation for those who pass away while travelling, working or living abroad, which it says has helped expand its client base significantly.

The firm is also a specialist in burials at sea, a service it has been providing for four years.

The directors of the company were the first independent business in the Bury area to sign up to the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors pledge to end funeral poverty and to make the costs of arranging funerals less daunting and more affordable.

Paul Williams said: “We believe we offer a truly differentiated service in the region and the ability to purchase the freehold of new premises will have a materially positive impact on the business – allowing us to expand our services further and to gain more staff. The support from Santander has been tremendous and central to our growth aspirations. It is always an absolute pleasure to deal with the very supportive people at the bank and I look forward to working them for many years to come.”

Kelly Catterall, relationship director at Santander Business Banking, said: “We are delighted to be helping Paul and the team to invest for growth. The business has a great track record of success and clear ambitions for growth, and with our support is set for a strong future.”
