Cladding firm wins contract on £36m Tameside project

Lancashire-based ventilated cladding specialist Shackerley has won contract to supply 45,000sq ft of ceramic granite for a £36m project in Tameside, Greater Manchester.

The Chorley company will use its SureClad product on a new advanced skills centre for Tameside College and a new public services hub for Tameside Council in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.

Designed by Ryder Architecture, the Vision Tameside Advanced Skills Centre and Civic Centre will combine functional, contemporary buildings with retained 19th century façades which date back to Ashton’s historic importance as part of Greater Manchester’s ‘Cottonopolis’ industrial heritage.

Project architect from Ryder Architects Mark Clasper said\: “Essentially this is a very contemporary building, which has been designed with extensive use of glazing to reinforce the concept of accessibility for all and provide a work and study environment that is characterised by natural light.

“However, the modern structure needs to integrate with the grade II-listed 19th century façades and the SureClad ceramic granite ventilated cladding system from Shackerley will enable us to achieve that aim both in terms of its colour and natural appearance and in its highly polished surface that will reflect surrounding traditional buildings.”

Shackerley will provide almost 6,500 fully-prefabricated, installation-ready façade panels for the project, in a total of 159 different sizes to meet the requirements of the design scheme.
