Public consultation on the proposed £65m regeneration plan for The Square Shopping Centre in Sale town centre has taken place.

More than 600 people attended the two-day event organised by developer Maloneview. The consultation period remains open until Sunday (November 26).

The proposals would see the partial demolition of shopping centre in a scheme to revitalise the town centre, delivering hundreds of new jobs and boosting Sale’s local economy.

The mixed-use regeneration scheme would deliver approximately 205 residential units, ranging from studios to a selection of townhouses, alongside approximately 37,000sq ft of retail and leisure floorspace, a 22,000sq ft, six screen cinema as well as an extensive new public realm; and a new public square bordering Sibson and Springfield Roads to the south.

Maloneview says the plans will not only boost Sale’s credentials as a key shopping and leisure destination, but also improve the town’s night time economy; and provide a much-needed gateway into the existing town centre from the south.

A wide range of comments have been received, with residents still able to view the consultation material and provide feedback online at www.salesquareregen.com.

Mark Rebbeck, commercial director at Maloneview, said: “It’s an exciting time for the project and we are committed to ensuring that the local community can help shape these plans to successfully regenerate the town centre.

“You are still able to have your say online as the consultation remains open. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to provide their feedback at our website www.salesquareregen.com.”
