Manchester-based JMW Solicitors has announced an unprecedented rise of 29% in revenue to £30.1m for the 12 months to October 31.

Profit also grew 71% to £7.9m in the same period.

Meanwhile, the firm grew to more than 400 people at its Spinningfields base.

This is against a background of double digit growth every year since 2010. Revenue has increased by 149% since 2010/11 and 52% in the last three financial years.

All departments increased their fees over the period but of particular note are the figures for business crime and regulation, up 80% from October, 2016 to October, 2017 as well as a 53% increase in residential real estate work, 51% in commercial litigation and a 44% increase in corporate recovery and insolvency work.

Meanwhile, Simon Bloch has recently joined the employment team as a partner. Simon joined JMW from Knights 1759 and prior to that Brabners.

He operates in all areas of Employment law but has a sector focus on working with clients in the recruitment sector.

Bloch’s clients include Jobwise, Virtual Human Resources, V3 Recruitment, Cantel Medical and MNM Property Services. Earlier this year the employment team was joined by two further additions, Jake Filson, a Solicitor and Michael Legge, an associate.

Hojol Uddin also joined JMW as partner and head of motoring. He advises individuals in all areas of motoring law including a specialism in medical revocation of licenses.

Rachel Fletcher has also joined the business crime and regulation team as a senior associate.

To accommodate the growing teams at JMW the firm has recently taken 14,000sq ft of new office accommodation at 3 Hardman Street, Spinningfields, in addition to the firm’s existing office space at 1 Byrom Place.

Joy Kingsley, senior partner at JMW, said: “Our policy of making carefully chosen lateral hires with their own clients as opposed to mergers and takeovers has proved very successful for us.

“We are fortunate that we continue to be approached by lawyers who want to work for us and bring their contacts and clients.

“There are seven further partner hires serving notice at the current time. We also greatly value those who already work for us and have welcomed the many people who have joined the firm over the last few years. We are proud to have grown so substantially and look forward to 2018.”
