Driver Group back in profit thanks to all-fronts improvement

East Lancashire-based Driver Group, the international construction and engineering consultancy has climbed back into profit thanks to significant improvement on all fronts.

Underlying profit before tax of £2.5m in the year to September 30 contrasted by a £0.4m loss in 2016, while revenue on continuing operations was up 15% to £60.2m from £52.4m.

The Rossendale company enjoyed an excellent performance across the whole of the UK market and there was a “strategy refreshed and clearly articulated, focusing on the groups expertise – claims and dispute resolution and expert witness support services.

Following the disposals of Driver Trett South Africa and Initiate Consulting, the group now comprises core businesses only.

Driver said it enjoyed another strong year in the Netherlands and Germany and its Singapore business significantly outperformed expectations.

Meanwhile, there were changes at board level. Mark Wheeler, its global chief operations officer was appointed to the group board; Dave Webster stepped down as non-executive director to be replaced by John Horgan; Peter Collini also stepped down as non-executive director and David Kilgour has been appointed as chief finance officer succeeding Hugh Cawley effective from today (Tuesday, December 12).
