Married couple launch dementia care service backed by BFS loan

Markco and Samantha Yeadon

Husband-and-wife team Samantha and Markco Yeadon are launching a new care service in Merseyside dedicated to looking after people with dementia.

They have been backed by a £20,000 loan from Business Finance Solutions (BFS), the North West delivery partner of the Government’s national £310m Start Up Loans programme and a lending partner of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Different Care is based in Mossley Hill in Liverpool and will create an initial five new jobs, providing not for profit, home-based specialist care for people living with dementia, disabled adults and elderly people, with services including daycare, escorting clients to appointments, support for social living, shopping, domestic duties and pet care.

The new business will be run by Samantha, who has been managing care services and homes in the residential and dementia sector for more than 16 years.

Markco will deliver training for all staff as well as providing coaching and support for families, evaluating living environments and sourcing technologies and other ways to help patients and their carers.

Samantha also plans to grow the business by working with local multi-disciplinary teams, hospitals, doctors and district nurses to develop a wider awareness of the home-based support services.

She said: “The loan from BFS has enabled us to build on our own expertise in this sector to create a professional and dedicated dementia services team, something that is very much in demand after the cessation of the Alzheimer’s Society support network service in Liverpool.”

Roger Seddon, head of lending at BFS, said: “Samantha has dedicated her professional life to working with people with dementia and we’re proud to support her and her team in launching this vital service with a Start Up Loan.

“Some18,000 people require this kind of care in Liverpool with over 5,500 currently living with dementia.

“Different Care will be working with other healthcare professionals to allow people with complex care needs to stay living at home in order to support their improved mental and physical health outcomes.”

BFS will see £15m allocated to new start-ups across the North West over a two year period, creating around 3,000 new businesses and over 5,000 new jobs in the region. BFS is the finance arm of The Growth Company and supported by the GM Combined Authority and Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership.
