Weekender: Lake District former inn for sale at £400K

The High Cross Inn

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to sell The High Cross Inn, a 1770s former inn on the outskirts of Broughton-in-Furness in the Lake District at a guide price of nearly £400,000.

The High Cross Inn sits on the summit of a hill at the gateway to the Western fells and with unsurpassed and far reaching views of Cumbria’s coast out over the Duddon Estuary and the sea beyond.

Transformed during 2017 from a traditional Lakeland inn into a contemporary Cumbrian café with terrace and bar, The High Cross also boasts four double en suite rooms with magnificent views and a dining and function room within an elegant conservatory which offers impressive panoramic views of the Duddon Valley.

The property also includes a large visitors’ car park and a three bed owner’s accommodation. Initial enquiries with the local planning authority have confirmed that the potential for development of a new hotel would be considered.

Having started trading in July, 2017, the business has been growing substantially due to its busy road side location and its positioning on the Cumbrian Coastal Way.

Tom O’Malley, business agent at Christie & Co’s Manchester office said: “The High Cross Inn has unexpectedly come to the market as a growing business still in its infancy. With an enviable location, interest should be strong due to the multiple revenue streams and potential to develop a hotel subject to approved planning.”

Christie & Co is seeking £399,950 for the freehold of The High Cross Inn.
