Shane McCamley

Senior project architect Shane McCamley has joined Hodder + Partners after working at several prestigious London based practices.

McCamley’s appointment comes as the Manchester-based architectural practice continues to press on with high profile projects including the £200m mixed-use St Michael’s scheme and RHS Garden Bridgewater.

Boasting 15 years’ experience, MCamley – who undertook his degree at The University of Manchester – recently worked as a project architect for Herzog & de Meuron’s RIBA Stirling Prize shortlisted Blavatnik School of Government project for Oxford University.

He has also worked on the National Theatre’s Temporary Theatre project, The Shed, Allies & Morrison’s Lock Keepers residential project, and the Northwest Cambridge & Olympicopolis projects for Stanton Williams.

Stephen Hodder, chairman of Hodder + Partners, said: “It’s fantastic that an architect of Shane’s pedigree is joining us as we continue our journey into 2018.

“The projects Shane has worked on speak for themselves which is why we believe he will help us further improve our offer across all sectors, including in education, office and residential, transport and heritage.”

He added: “It’s no secret, following our 25th anniversary year in 2017, that the next 12 months is a year of delivery. We have some very significant projects and are in a great position to take on more interesting projects too.”

McCamley, who previously worked in Manchester for Stephenson Bell Architects, said he was delighted to join Hodder + Partners.

“Hodder and Partners is an architectural practice that has long been on my radar due to the quality of work it has produced over more than two decades,” said McCamley.

“Manchester is also a city I’m passionate about and I’m looking forward to being involved in a number of significant projects in the city and in other parts of the UK.”

Lancaster-based Hotfoot Design has appointed Harriet Russell to head up the sales and marketing of its popular gift voucher platform Regalo – which is used by hotels, restaurants, bars and spas to increase online sales through their websites and social media.

Hailing from Scotland, Russell studied art in Dundee before joining a leading magazine as art editor, then going on to launch her own business in Lancaster.

She said: “I’m so delighted to be joining Hotfoot at such an exciting time for the company. Regalo offers growing hospitality venues a way to reach new customers and increase revenue, and I can’t wait to introduce it to clients across Lancashire, Cumbria and beyond.”

Aidan Watt, technical director and partner at Hotfoot Design added: “It is fantastic to have Harriet on board. We designed and built Regalo to help hospitality and leisure businesses generate more direct revenue, while increasing loyalty and footfall, and Harriet is very well placed to lead the charge having worked in the sector over the last few years.”

Regalo was launched in early 2017 at the Northern Restaurant and Bar Exhibition in Manchester and at the Lakes Hospitality Trade Show in Cumbria. Current clients include Lancaster Brewery, which uses Regalo to sell gift vouchers across its hotels, restaurants and bars in Lancashire and Cumbria, and Upham Group, which has deployed Regalo at its 16 pubs and hotels in the southern counties.

Cheshire-based architecture practice Calcerpeel, has grown its team after taking on its architectural trainees.

Tom Wilkinson and Rhiannon Graham have both completed undergraduate degrees in architecture and join the company for their ‘part 1’ practical year in industry.

The pair will assist the firm on a wide range of schemes in the superhome, residential and leisure sectors.

Tom, 25 and originally from the Wirral, said: “I was lucky enough to spend some time at the firm’s Surrey office through the RIBA mentoring scheme while at university. The process of becoming an architect is lengthy, so it was important to spend time with a company that could offer me experience in different sectors.”

Rhiannon, 22, from Cheshire, said: “Having the opportunity to take a year in industry really benefits students who, like me, don’t know which part of architecture they want to specialise in. Being able to get some hands-on experience in industry is really exciting.”

Ewen Miller, managing director at Calderpeel Architects, said: “As a growing practice, it’s important that we keep the next generation of architects coming through. It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to mentor both Tom and Rhiannon and I look forward to watching their careers grow.”
