Journalism school takes last remaining space at iconic Carlton House

Carlton House

Journalism school News Associates has taken the final remaining space in Carlton House, the grade II listed building on Manchester’s Albert Square, following the building’s £1m revamp.

News Associates has taken second-floor accommodation totaling 3,940 sq fit.

Originally built in 1873 boasting Venetian Gothic architecture, Carlton House’s £1m-plus comprehensive refurbishment was completed by Carlton House Group (CHG).

The team brought in Manchester-based interior fit-out specialist Mark Trotter of Design Department, whose brief was to “create a new building within the historic fabric” of the site.

The result blends the building’s distinctive character with modern features and has proved hugely attractive to local, national and global businesses.

All other office space in the property is occupied by tenants on long-term leases including State Bank of India, which recently renewed its lease for a further 15 years, Nexus Solicitors and independent external façade specialist Taylor Maxwell.

The final office suite was jointly marketed between CBRE and Colliers International, on behalf of CHG.

Jonathan Cook, Senior Surveyor, CBRE’s Office Agency team in Manchester, said:
“Carlton House offers superb, contemporary office accommodation in a prominent position at 18 Albert Square with a strong emphasis on sustainability.

“The second floor has exceptional views over Albert Square and we’re delighted to secure this prestigious office space for News Associates to complete CHG’s portfolio.”
