Weekender: Latest phase of Crosby regeneration nears completion

Regeneration specialist St Modwen’s latest phase of investment in Crosby village centre on Merseyside is nearing completion as it announced that a local restaurant and bar occupier has been secured.

In the coming weeks the hoardings are set to come down to reveal the refurbishment of the art deco style Glenn Buildings and the new build edition to the high street of 10 Moor Lane.

The Blues Bar has expanded its premises adding a new bar and dining area after agreeing a deal to take Unit 1 in the Glenn Buildings North as well as extending its lease on its current premises in Unit 2.

Caddick Construction started on site with the redevelopment of the Glenn Buildings and construction of 10 Moor Lane in June 2017 after St. Modwen secured planning approval from Sefton Council for its plans to develop the 24,775 sq ft of retail, leisure and office space.

David Nuttall, senior development manager for St. Modwen, said: “We are close to completing the multi-million pound investment in the Glenn Buildings, which has also included adding a new 9,800 sq ft building to increase the offer for occupiers.

“The Blues Bar has been a long-standing fixture on the high street in Crosby and had previously faced an uncertain future. We are delighted that they have committed to renewing their lease and feel confident in extending their bar into an additional unit.

“We are in detailed negotiations with further occupiers for the scheme and we hope to be able to make further announcements soon.”

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Labour cabinet member for regeneration and skills, said: “St. Modwen’s investment in Crosby village centre really represents a significant and welcome contribution in delivering the aims and objectives of the ‘Investment Strategy’ we published in 2015.

“It also sits within our 2030 Vision highlighting the fact that Sefton is open for business.

“This scheme has significantly improved the fabric and appearance of the village centre along Moor Lane, creating new futures for these buildings including a new unit at 10 Moor Lane and the Glenn Buildings North and South.
“Along with recent environmental improvements to the street scene this will help to create a vibrant and pleasant village centre for our communities, as new retail and leisure uses will increase footfall and activity and support local independents.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with St. Modwen and working with other investment interests in the future.”
