North West HQ adds up for US-based maths tutoring business

Mathnasium, a US-based mathematics learning franchise business, has chosen the North West as the location for its national headquarters.

It will be rolling out franchise operations across the UK from its head office in Knutsford.

Mathnasium is planning the launch of 24 franchises across the UK in 2018 including learning centres in Wilmslow and Bramhall in the North West, as well as a training facility in Altrincham.

Mathnasium has designed a maths learning programme which has already secured a strong track record with over 900 successful franchises in America, Canada, Hong Kong and the Middle East.

Director of UK operations at Mathnasium and franchise expert Steve Felmingham: “We see a huge opportunity across the UK to enhance the learning of mathematics in children, particularly given the recent curriculum and GCSE reforms.

“As an established franchise operation, this is a unique opportunity for those entrepreneurially minded individuals looking for a new career start in 2018.”

He added: “Mathnasium’s expert instructors show different ways for students to tackle the same problem, so they can decide what works best for them – this helps to boost confidence and deliver results. Students are also taught using the Mathnasium Method, which works by developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between numbers and problems in a real-world environment.  This helps students fully understand the processes for calculating answers, rather than just by rote memorisation.

This approach can help with the new maths GCSE problem-solving questions, which The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) found to be more challenging for students in the restyled exam here in the UK. Critically however, it’s not just learning to pass exams. Mathnasium teaches life skills that help prepare students for sixth-form, university, and beyond.”

Following the success of Mathnasium’s first UK learning centre in Radlett, the company is set to roll out franchises across the UK. With the first areas in the North West to benefit will be Bramhall and Wilmslow, addition centres in Hampstead, Barnes, Dulwich, Amersham and Oxford are also scheduled to open by the end of the year.
