Facelift for Northern Quarter office building in the offing

Hilton House

Manchester-based independent development and investment company CERT Property has submitted a planning application to develop Hilton House in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Hilton House is a 35,000 sq ft office building on the corner of Hilton Street, Tariff Street and Port Street.

Designed by architects Stephenson Studio, the proposed scheme will include a comprehensive refurbishment of the internal space, contemporary new facade, a 2,250 sq ft extension to the top two floors and a “secret garden” to the rear of the property.

Once complete, the development will offer flexible office accommodation and co-working space for SMEs as well as the continued use of the ground floor as a bar and restaurant.

CERT Property managing director Howard Lord said: “Hilton House is a true rough diamond awash with original features that give it a distinctive personality, including a striking spiral staircase and parquet flooring throughout.

“The external design is deliberately bold; the dark grey and corten steel creates a palette which reflects the rebellious nature of the Northern Quarter.

“I was born and raised here in Manchester and have always been passionate about restoring life to the neglected buildings in our city – in particular in the Northern Quarter. A great deal of consideration has been given to these plans as we have worked to retain the original characteristics of the building whilst improving its offering.”
