KPMG appoints international tax director Downing

Jonathan Downing

The Manchester office of professional services firm KPMG has appointed international tax director Jonathan Downing.

Dowing, who joins from PwC, has more than 17 years’ experience in advising multi-national clients on international tax matters and working with inbound investors.

In his new role, he will focus on working with large corporate clients and draw on his track record in advising businesses on structuring and financing investments, divestments and reorganisations, joint ventures and permanent establishments, as well as domestic tax issues, governance and compliance.

The announcement follows the appointment of Jon Meeten as head of tax for the firm in the North of England. Meetan leads KPMG’s tax practices in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle.

Downing said: “Jon Meeten is building a formidable tax team across the North that can offer the region’s businesses – both large and small – the advice they need. I look forward to supporting our multinational clients in meeting their international tax responsibilities, but also helping unlock investment in the region and supporting Northern growth ambitions overseas.”

Meeten said: “As Manchester and the North’s stature grows, there is increasing demand for quality advice for multinational businesses and those looking to invest in the region. Clients are looking to access locally-based advisory services with nationally-recognised expertise. Jonathan’s arrival adds even more experience to our team as we further establish ourselves as a major hub for our UK tax practice.
