Work set to start on £14m apartment scheme

The construction of a £14.2m Manchester apartment scheme is set to start next week.

Galliford Try Partnerships and One Manchester Housing Group will start work the development on Princess Road, Manchester, called
The Clockworks.

The scheme comprises 105, two-bedroom apartments, as well as a landscaped roof terrace.

Galliford Try Partnerships will be the developer and contractor for the project which has been designed by Northern Quarter-based architects IDP.

The apartments are being developed for One Manchester and will be available as rent to buy which residents will be able to rent for up to five years initially at a discounted rent giving them a chance to save for a deposit.

Landowners Manchester City Council and Kirkland Developments have both helped bring forward the new apartments.

Brendan Blythe, regional manager director at Galliford Try Partnerships, said: “This is a very exciting new scheme in a landmark location which will provide high-quality homes for working people wanting to live within easy striking distance of the city centre.

“The design is fresh and modern but pays attention to the character of the surrounding neighbourhood and it is further proof of our commitment and ability to help support the Government’s ambition to deliver 300,000 new homes. Princess Road offers access to great transport links and local facilities and I am very much looking forward to seeing the scheme completed next summer and people moving in to their new homes.”

Judy Noah, head of development at One Manchester, said: “We are delighted to be launching one of our first Rent to Buy schemes that will allow working people to rent while saving for a deposit to buy their property (either outright or with shared ownership). The Clockworks is in a great location, with easy access to the local centres of Moss Side and Hulme, as well as to the city centre. The apartments have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, secure courtyard parking and access to the residents’ roof terrace.”
