Swedish brand Monki to site first store in North in Arndale

The Arndale Centre

Manchester Arndale is to be the home of the first concept store of young women’s fashion brand Monki in the North.

Joint owners into and M&G Real Estate say Monki, which fuses Scandi cool design with the energy of Asian street style, has signed to take 5,600 sq ft on New Cannon Street in the Arndale.

Monki opened its first UK store on Carnaby Street, London and this will be its fifth UK store following the success of their stores in London, Bristol and Glasgow. The major international clothing brand, which was founded in 2005, has more than 115 stores in 14 markets.

Kannika Mall, asset manager at M&G Real Estate, said on behalf joint owners: “The fact that leading, internationally known brands, choose the centre as a key location for their expansion in Northern England, is further testament to Manchester Arndale’s prominent position as one of the UK’s leading retail hubs.

“Manchester Arndale is the ideal location for exciting brands seeking to expand and grow their UK presence, as we have seen with the latest arrivals of exciting fashion brands such as Victoria’s Secret and Paul Smith.”

The letting follows the recent announcement that brand new entrant to the UK market, Australian handbag designer, Colette, has also signed at Manchester Arndale. This deal is part of its first two British store openings, in addition to London.

Manchester Arndale is one of Europe’s largest inner city shopping centres. The retained agents are JLL and Metis Real Estate Advisors.
