SiS makes splash with soaring results and link up with Olympic champion swimmer

East Lancashire-based Science in Sport is celebrating stellar results with gross profits climbing to £9.3m from nearly £7.4m as it teams up with Olympic champion swimmer Adam Peaty.

In the year to December 31 revenue for the Nelson-headquartered sports nutrition company grew 28% to more than £15.6m.

Meanwhile, SiS also announced Peaty has joined its brand amabassador team, initially up to and including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Peaty is an Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion and also the holder of nine world records.

He said: “Science in Sport is the most trusted and researched brand in sports nutrition and similar to myself focus on constant progression.

“I’m looking to drop between a half and one second from my world record by 2020 and Science in Sport are going to be key in achieving my goals.”

SiS said 55% of its revenue was derived from online channels (2016: 49%), exceeding the 50% target set for 2017.

Chief executive Stephen Moon said: “This was another period of very strong growth, the fifth consecutive year where SiS has significantly outstripped this sector.

“We saw outperformance in all online channels and international markets.

“Our strategy of consistent investment in brand equity, our e-commerce platform and product innovation underpinned this success.

“Continuing improvements in factory and supply chain efficiencies underpinned a very robust gross margin.

“Our core business in the UK and EU was profitable at EBITDA level and we commenced our investment in the strategic markets of the USA and Italy.

“We have launched our new football business, underpinned by our recently announced exclusive nutrition partnership with Manchester United.”
