Exciting £3.5m food hall in Urmston unveiled

The scheme in Urmston

A detailed planning application has been submitted for a new development at Urmston market in Greater Manchester.

The McGoff Group has put together the application for M41, a food-led development that is part of a major redevelopment of the town.

Outline planning consent has already been granted and a decision on the detailed application is expected in June.

McGoff Group is investing around £3.5m in the comprehensive redevelopment of the existing market site, with phase one housing already underway.

M41 is a pioneering food-led market hall, which includes a bespoke new design, as opposed to the large majority of food market halls across the UK that are found in historic buildings that have been refurbished and are often linked to council ownership.

The design for M41 aims to create a development sympathetic to the area, reflecting the architecture and form of the existing buildings along the nearby Railway Road and Greenfield Avenue.

The new development will be a modern, flexible building with multiple dimensions and the ability to respond to different community requirements.

Chris McGoff, director at McGoff Group, said: “Anticipation is already mounting in Urmston for the new food market hall, with lots of interest from locals in terms of timings and inquiries from potential operators, which is great to see so early on.

“We want M41 to reflect Urmston’s vibrancy and increasing desirability as a great place to live, work and play, and have worked closely with the local community to establish their views and understand their feedback regarding the concept, building design and product offering.

“The proposed plans for M41 are exceptional with every detail carefully considered, including indoor and outdoor children’s play areas, private dining, a mezzanine level with additional seating, space for pop-up stalls and staging events, as well as a dedicated co-work hub with free wifi to name just a few.

“We really have invested significantly in M41 as it will be the first and pioneering new build food market hall in the North West, with Urmston the perfect location for the development.”

M41 will include 10 to 12 food and drink operators situated around an informal central seating area of around 160-180 seats.

Traders will be carefully selected to ensure that local customers benefit from the very best quality and choice at competitive prices.

There will be a strong focus on independents from across the region who can bring locally-sourced artisan-quality food and drink to the food hall, offering something different for the local community.

The McGoff Group hope to start work on site in August, with the new hall set to be completed in Spring 2019.
