Cheshire’s most popular tennis tournament is back for 2018 with a cast of sporting legends – and the news that the event’s blueprint for success is about to be rolled out across the globe.

Staged at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa from June 20 – 22 this year, Boodles Tennis at The Mere will welcome Croatian centre-court legend and Wimbledon Men’s Singles Winner, Goran Ivanisevic and French Davis Cup maestro Henri Leconte to Cheshire’s very own centre court this summer.

Goran Ivanisevic, who won the Wimbledon men’s singles in 2001, appears at Boodles Tennis at The Mere for the third year running and will be joined by a host of tennis legends at the hugely popular tournament.

Other stars confirmed for this year’s event include Belgian former Top 20 star Xavier Malisse, Swedish men’s singles finalist Mikael Pernfors and five times ATP men’s singles winner, Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui.

The tournament has already welcomed a golden list of former tennis greats to its courts over the years, including players like Mark Philippoussis, Peter Fleming, Jeremy Bates, Anders Jarryd, Cedric Pioline, Peter McNamara, Kim Clijsters, Thomas Enqvist and Marion Bartoli.

Boodles Tennis at The Mere is now firmly on the calendar as one of the North West’s most glamourous summer events – a stylish garden party set in the beautiful grounds of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa, with thrilling tennis action from the game’s greats, accompanied by fine wine, food and lashings of champagne.

The 2018 event will be the sixth consecutive year Boodles Tennis has been held at The Mere and, once again, this year the event will be raising cash for the Seashell Trust charity.

The three-day event will also see the return of the hugely successful Ladies Day, which debuted last year and was the first-time women had played at the tournament – in 2017 it featured former World No.1 Kim Clijsters and ex-Wimbledon Champion Marion Bartoli, who competed in front of hundreds of guests. This year Ladies Day will take place on Wednesday June 20.

The annual tennis tournament has been such a winner in Cheshire that organisers now plan to roll out the formula across several territories worldwide, copying the Cheshire format and attracting even more former top-level ATP players to tournaments globally.

Boodles Tennis at the Mere spokesman, Matt Haycox, said: “”We are really excited about this year’s Boodles Tennis at the Mere. We’ve some great names taking part, a who’s who list of sponsors and we’re expecting record attendances in 2018.

“There’s so much to look forward to this year. Not the least of which is the return of Ladies Day, which was such a hit with the players, sponsors and fans last year.”

This year’s title sponsor is once again Boodles, the high-end jewellers. Associate sponsors confirmed for 2018 include, Oman Air, Manchester Airport, Rolls Royce, Aspall, Brown Shipley and Myerson.

Official tournament partners include, Cheshire Life, Mantis, and Waterfront Magazine.
