Sixty guests attended TheBusinessDesk.Com’s first Women in Business lunch to be held in Liverpool.

A number of similar events, with prominent women speakers from the business community, have already been held in Manchester.

And this time around the gathering was held at the Lunya restaurant in the Liverpool One shopping centre.

Guest speaker was Joanna Swash, the inspirational managing director of the Wrexham firm Moneypenny.

Joanna has helped grow the business, which now employs 600 staff and is expanding into America.

The firm operates phone answering services and has been named in the top five of the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for on two occasions.

The businesswoman talked to her audience about the importance of creating the right culture in the workplace and the challenges facing companies.

She said: “We work hard to create the kind of working environment that makes people want to stay with us.

“We do not advertise, people want to come and work for us, every year we get 3,000 CVs sent into to us.

“We ask people what they want in the workplace and something as simple as natural ventilation can make all the difference.”

The firm runs fitness and yoga sessions at its head office and even has its own pub.

Joanna said: “Our business is all about creating the right culture, we recruit people with the right attitude.

“If you have people who are happy and enjoy their job then they are going to deliver the best service.”

The next Women in Business lunch is being held in Chester on Thursday, June 7.
