Stewart Milne Homes reveals plan for 265 houses in Hooton

A development of 265 family homes and apartments in Cheshire from Stewart Milne Homes has been awarded planning permission from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Located at the former Roften Works site in Hooton, it will be the largest development in the housebuilder’s portfolio of homes across the North West.

The regeneration of the otherwise unused brownfield site, which was home to the former wartime factory, will create much needed housing for the area.

Plans for the 18-hectare site, which received unanimous approval from the planning committee, include a number of two-bedroom apartments and houses ranging from two to six bedrooms, to include 68 affordable homes.

Situated around a central boulevard, the site will also house a 72-bedroom care home, a new community hall and a village green.

Construction on the new homes will begin early 2019 and the first homes are expected to be complete by summer 2019.

Land and planning director for Stewart Milne Homes North West, Stephen Daintith, said: “The unanimous approval from the Cheshire West and Chester planning committee for the new homes in Hooton is a reflection of the quality of the homes we are building.

“This will be our largest development ever constructed here in the North West and marks a significant milestone in our investment in the region, leading the way for us to construct in more larger scale developments in the near future.

“Our homes will provide a quality choice for those looking to buy a new home in the Hooton area and we look forward to bringing these homes to life and assisting with the council’s regeneration plans for the area.”

Once built, the new homes will offer residents excellent transport links, including direct train links from neighbouring Hooton station in to Liverpool and out towards Ellesmere Port and Chester.

The Wirral Way footpath and cycle path is also easily accessible, starting at Hooton station and following the former Birkenhead Railway through the Wirral countryside.

As part of planning, Stewart Milne Homes will ensure that building works have minimal impact on the surrounding green belt land and the woodland to the south of the development will be enhanced for local wildlife.

Cllr Angela Claydon, cabinet member for housing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “This is another excellent example of new housing development taking place in Ellesmere Port and the confidence developers have in our housing market.

“The Port’s the place when it comes to housing development, it really is a boom town.”

Stewart Milne Homes has developments across the North West of England and plans to construct an additional 2,500 new homes in the region over the next five years.

Part of the Stewart Milne Group, the housebuilder was recently awarded five-star status by the industry, one of only five major housebuilders in the UK to achieve this accolade.
