Second motorway closure in Manchester area following incident

Accident

Police have closed the M67 motorway in Manchester following a serious incident.

The closure came just a few hours after the M6 was closed at Wigan.

The M67 has been closed eastbound between Junction 3 (A627, Hyde) and Junction 4 (A57, Hattersley) due to an incident.

North West Motorway Police are at the scene, with support from Highways England Traffic Officers.

A spokesman said diversions are in place but warned motorists to avoid the area if possible.

The spokesman added: “Traffic is being diverted via the ‘Solid Diamond’ diversion symbol, from Junction 3, take the A627 southbound to the junction with the A57.

“Continue on the A57 eastbound to where it merges with the M67 at Junction 4. As this is the end of the M67, road users should then continue on whichever route they were intending on taking from there.”

Updates on the incident will be posted on the dedicated Twitter feed for the region, @HighwaysNWEST.
