Plans for £20m road close to Everton’s new home unveiled

Plans for a £20m link road close to Everton’s brand new stadium have been unveiled.

The pans are part of the massive redevelopment taking place on the waterfront in Liverpool.

The aim is to improve access to Everton’s stadium and the new Isle of Man ferry terminal.

Under the scheme the Southern Link Road will be extended for just over a mile towards the waterfront.

The plans have been submitted by construction firm Amey on behalf of Liverpool City Council.

As part of the scheme a number of buildings on the King Edward Industrial Estate would have to be demolished.

The existing roundabout at Bath Street would upgraded and a new cycle route created.

Around £5bn is being spent on redeveloping the waterfront.

The Liverpool Waters project will see 60-hectares of land on the waterfront re-developed.

Included in the vision are five unique and dynamic neighbourhoods, running from the edge of the already established Princes Dock, nearly 2km north along the waterfront until it reaches Bramley Moore Dock, the proposed home for the new Everton football stadium.

One of the biggest changes in the plan is the relocation of Central Park, with the intention to move it closer to the River Mersey.

Other changes in the plan include a re-imagined Clarence Square at Central Dock.
