People on the Move: Sterling Event Group; Peel Ports; Converge TS

Sterling Event Group has announced a new company leadership structure with the appointment of three new directors.

Former senior project managers Paul Davies and Richard Nicholson and former head of vision Dan Charmer have been promoted internally to company directors.

The three new directors have worked at the Manchester based company for a combined 19 years and their promotions are in line with the company’s ongoing growth strategy.

Managing director Richard Bowden said: “They each possess varied and extensive industry experience and are focused on developing our offering and taking Sterling to the next level.”

Sterling Event Group also bolstered its team with an addition of seven team members in 2017 and a further six staff in the first half of 2018, a record level of recruits for the technical event production companies, taking the total head count at its south Manchester headquarters to 38 with plans for further positions to be added throughout 2018.

Converge Technology Specialists (Converge TS) has today announced David Byrne as the company’s chief financial officer.

Previously a director at PwC, Byrne has over 20 years’ experience working with fast growing private companies in advisory and industry roles.

As an M&A specialist, he has advised on deals with a total value of over £750m and will lead the Cheshire-based company’s acquisition plans as well as supporting organic growth.

On the back of three consecutive years of 50% revenue growth, Converge TS secured investment from private equity firm Tenzing to pursue its strategy to become the leading cloud provider to the legal sector.

Byrne’s appointment follows hot on the heels of the announcement of Peter Gill as chief commercial officer.

Nigel Wright, CEO of Converge TS, said: “Our strategy is designed to accelerate our organic growth providing secure, reliable cloud solutions to increasing numbers of top law firms, supported by a number of selected acquisitions. David’s expertise in advising businesses in the technology sector through the full cycle of M&A, along with his strategic focus, makes him a great addition to our senior management team.”

Peel Ports has hired 25 full time staff to work at the Port of Liverpool as part of a local recruitment drive.

Ten staff started at the port in May, with additional groups due to start work throughout June and July.

The staff will work at both the port’s new Liverpool2 container terminal as well as at Royal Seaforth Container Terminal.

Jouke Schaap, port director at Peel Ports Group, said: “We’re pleased to be creating a further 25 full-time jobs at the Port of Liverpool, underlining our role as a major employer in the city and a significant contributor to the local economy. We’ve invested heavily in our estate, infrastructure and staff in recent years as we cement Liverpool’s position as one of the UK’s most important ports for global trade and business growth.”
