Disruptor hotel is to open in Manchester this autumn

Design led hotel

A hotel chain which describes itself as a disruptor and design led is opening its first venue in Manchester.

Locke Hotels already has hotels in London and Edinburgh and is bringing its concept to the North West for the first time.

The hotel, which will be on the corner of Princess Street and Whitworth Street, is opening for business in October.

Work on the 160-unit lifestyle aparthotel is already underway and when completed it will offer 24sqm studios and one-bedroom suites.

The new hotel is in the heart of the Gay Village and overlooks the Rochdale Canal.

Named the Whitworth Locke the owners say the hotel will fuse the comfort and autonomy of designer residential living with the character, service and amenities of a lifestyle hotel.

The former cotton mill is made up of three buildings.

The property is being transformed by New York architects and designers Grzywinski + Pons.

The finished development will celebrate the past of industrial Manchester.

Eric Jafari, Locke’s co-founder and creative director, said: “We believe that travellers are willing to compromise on a short stay but not necessarily for longer trips.

“They want an aspirational second home, and a home is so much more than a place to rest your head.

“We believe that everyone’s home is defined by a combination of their community and daily habits.

“It is critical that each Locke is rooted in its locality and we couldn’t think of a better partner than Foundation to ensure that Whitworth delivers on this promise.”

The hotel will include a coworking space, a crossfit gym, cocktail bar, healthy all-day dining, apparel kiosk and a partnership with local Foundation Coffee.
Finally, all amenities are linked together by a glass Atrium which is being redesigned into an urban greenhouse.
