Building firm GRAHAM has secured an order book worth £180m in the region.

The company opened for business five years ago and started out in Manchester city centre with just three staff.

The business now directly employs more than 100 members of staff from its Salford HQ, and has gone from a turnover of £4m in its first year to £64m in the last 12 months.

The GRAHAM group, which was founded more than 200 years ago, operates from 21 locations across the UK, and has a turnover of £735m.

The North of England division works across a number of regions, with high-profile projects delivered and currently on-site in Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, and Lancaster.

Gary Hughes, regional director, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by everyone across the North of England division – to go from what was essentially a standing start in Manchester, to where we are now, is phenomenal.

“The support we received from the business community and also the local authorities – particularly Manchester City Council – was encouraging right from the off.

“It has always been our aim to become part of the fabric of the Greater Manchester region and the wider North of England, and to give back through community engagement wherever possible.

“Northern cities such as Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester are undergoing major regeneration in both commercial and residential sectors, and we are excited to be involved in so many expansive projects with wide-reaching impacts.”

GRAHAM provides a wide range of services from its Salford base, inclluding building and construction, civil engineering and fit-out work.

Projects in the North of England include the recently awarded 383-bed BTR development at Strand Street on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, PRS schemes with developers Manchester Life and Glenbrook in Manchester city centre, and the £22m transformation of the Grade I listed Piece Hall and Central Library and Archive in Halifax.
