The Alchemist

Fast growing bar chain The Alchemist is planning to open two new branches in central London.

The Manchester based company has secured two new central London locations, adding to its ever-growing presence across the UK.

The openings follow the success of its current Bevis Marks venue, and will see the operator bring its trademark of theatre and immersive experience to trendy Shoreditch and Covent Garden.

The first of the two venues is set to open in November 2018, in the theatre district of Covent Garden on St Martins Lane.

The bar and restaurant will see a £1.6million investment and will extend over 6966 sq. ft., accommodating 72 covers.

Following a £1.3million investment the second venue, located in the vibrant area of Old Street, Shoreditch will open its doors in March 2019.

The new bar and restaurant will span a generous 4456 sq. ft. accommodating 76 covers, complemented by a beautiful outdoor area hosting an additional 28 covers.

The sites’ design, led by Macaulay Sinclair will follow The Alchemist’s trademark ‘copper-cased wonderland’ décor with interiors featuring amber, coppers and reds accompanied by unique and gothic artworks.

The Alchemist, first London location in Bevis Marks is to undergo a £280,000 transformation.
As a result it will be closing for three weeks in August.

Simon Potts, managing director of The Alchemist, said: “We are delighted to finally announce these London venues, it’s been a long time coming but we feel incredibly lucky to have secured two fantastic locations, St Martins Lane and Old Street.

“Both areas are vibrant, intriguing and offer a fantastically diverse drinking and dining scene – overall the locations feel a perfect fit for us.

“London is obviously a competitive market – but following the success of Bevis Marks, we are confident we can offer a memorable and immersive experience for both residents and tourists to enjoy.

“Customers of our existing site will see a real difference in both our offering and design as we aim to elevate our venues with each launch, and these will be no different. We cannot wait to open the doors and put more Alchemist stamps across the city of London.”

Established in 2010 The Alchemist provides a casual dining experience from breakfast through to dinner, complemented by an expertly crafted drinks menu.

The chain now has sites in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Chester, Oxford and Nottingham.

The Alchemist is backed by Palatine Private Equity, who supported a buy out from Living Ventures in 2015.
