Row of historic shops given new lease of life

Dale Street

A row of derelict buildings in Liverpool city centre have been bought back to life as part of a £2.6m redevelopment.

Legacie Development Group has completed the project to demolish and rebuild the Dale Street shops.

The historic buildings, which fell into total despair in the heart of Liverpool’s thriving business district, have been turned into new stores making up 3400sqft of retail space, including a spa that will occupy the entire ground floor.

The shops will open in August and all 18 apartments are now fully let.

Legacie Developments was tasked with recreating the Dale Street shops.

The developer worked closely with Liverpool City Council and its planning and conservation team to create a building that is in keeping with the heritage of the listed properties within the area.

The Dale Street shops project is the second phase of redevelopment undertaken by Legacie, following completion of the adjacent property 99-107 Dale Street in 2016.

Legacie has also taken on various projects across the North West including Ropemaker Place on Renshaw Street, Water Street’s Reliance House and Azure Residence based in the North of Liverpool.

A spokesperson said: “It was a shame that the original listed building had to be demolished on structural safety grounds, however Legacie Developments was passionate about restoring the building to its former glory and reviving this much-loved building.

“Our aim was to respect the heritage and history of the Dale Street shops and so working very closely with Liverpool City Council and its planning/conversation team was essential to develop a project that was suitable in the context of the adjacent listed properties in the area.

“We’re delighted with the completed project and are thrilled that it has received such positive feedback. It shows what can be achieved on sensitive sites when a restoration is in the right hands.

“It’s been an incredibly rewarding project to work on and Legacie thanks LCC for allowing us to breathe a new lease of life into this special area within the city centre.”
