Plans submitted for co-working space in city centre

City Tower Pavilion

Property firm Schroder Real Estate Investment Management has drawn up plans for a co-working space in the heart of Manchester.

The new space in the City Tower would overlook Piccadilly Gardens.

The 2,645 sq ft offices have been designed by architects and tenants of the building Sheppard Robson.

The plans include a sheltered terrace area which would have views across Piccadilly Gardens.

The event space is a response to the growing demand for shared working space and changes in the way people work.

WeWork, one of the biggest names in co-working businesses with a valuation now in excess of $15.2bn, is thought to be considering opening up a third Manchester space.

The developer already operates centres in Spinningfield and St Peter’s Square.

According to reports WeWork is considering partnering with Amazon to take 92,000 sq ft at Hanover House in Corporation Street.

Amazon had been looking for new Manchester office as part of the plans to create a larger HQ2 campus in the city.

Schroders has been working with property consultants CBRE on the project in Piccadilly.

Rob Cosslett, investment manager at Schroders said: “Creating the additional amenity opens up a further part of the building, expanding floor space.

“It will enable us to offer distinct space and will also allow us to facilitate a wider events programme with extra creative initiatives for tenants to participate in.”
