Ashton-under-Lyne PRS scheme approved

The Vernon Street plans

Architect MgMaStudio has supported Olive Property Construction in obtaining planning consent for a PRS (private rented sector) scheme in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The development will feature 24 two-bedroom apartments on the site of the former Conservative Club in Vernon Street and was unanimously approved by councillors at Tameside Borough Council’s planning committee.

Its design features a stepped roof inspired by the town’s history at the centre of the textiles industry and this latest scheme is a comprehensive redesign of a previously approved, but stalled, application.

This is Olive Property Construction’s second development site in the North West, following a previous scheme in Crewe.

Landscaping support was provided by The Environment Partnership.

Matthew Ashton, director at MgMaStudio, said: “The previously approved scheme established the principle of a monolithic stepped block, which we have sought to improve upon and model in a more sensitive way, inspired by the industrial heritage of Ashton.

“Features such as expressed gables were common among textile mills and warehouses, so we have hoped to express that by alternating the gables on each main elevation, thus removing the flat roof elements of the previous design, while also improving the landscaping of the site to significantly improve the amenity for residents.”
