Exports ahoy after funding deal for Altrincham maritime specialist

An Emsys unit in-situ

Altrincham-based Emsys Maritime, the world’s third-largest manufacturer of marine emissions monitoring systems for the global shipping industry, is to target international exports following new funding from Santander Business Banking.

Incorporated in 2016 by owner Simon Brown, Emsys provides systems for vessels such as cruise and container ships as well as tankships, liquified natural gas carriers and semi-submersibles.

Almost 100% of the business is exports to international companies and clients include Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries.

The firm provides expertise in designing, manufacturing and installing marine emissions monitoring systems, linked to investment in research and development.

Emsys is accredited with the largest and most comprehensive set of maritime approvals of any marine emissions monitoring system firm, and is looking to build on this with new, innovative products.

The funding facility from Santander will allow Emsys to manage cash-flow challenges that can arise when working on long-term manufacturing projects, helping it target additional export-focused projects and grow its book of international clients.

Santander has been the firm’s day-to-day partner since 2016.

Simon Brown, Emsys Maritime managing director, said: “Our highly experienced team has unrivalled expertise in the design, installation, commissioning and through-life support of marine emissions monitoring systems, and this can be seen in the quality of our global clients and our order book.

“We have strong aspirations for continued growth and the funding from Santander has been key in helping us take this ambition forward.”

Luke Rowbotham, business relationship director for Santander Business Banking, said: “Emsys is rightly trusted by the world’s biggest shipowners and shipbuilders, and it has a winning solution with an on-time and on-budget service delivery.

“We are delighted to be able to support a local business to help them continue to export internationally and hope to support the business further as it expands.”
