Landmark inn goes on the market for £300,000

The Coaching Inn

A landmark pub in Wigan town centre is to go up for auction for almost £300,000.

The inn is set to go under the hammer with SDL Auctions North West at the AJ Bell Stadium on Wednesday 12 September.

Built in 1895, The Coaching Inn is a Victorian hotel located just a mile from Wigan town centre which has been family owned and run for over 30 years.

It is now being offered at auction as the family members that own it are retiring. It has a *guide price of £285,000.

Andy Thompson, senior valuer at SDL Auctions North West, said: “This is a substantial property on a large plot. It currently operates as a hotel with 18 en-suite bedrooms and a restaurant and bar area.

“Internally it would be considered dated now and may be suitable for alternative uses, subject to planning.

“It has parking to the rear for approximately ten cars, so the site as a whole has potential. It is located on one of the main roads into Wigan, with a good and regular bus service into the town centre.

“The Coaching Inn is less than two miles from the Three Sisters Racing Circuit and the JJB Stadium.”

He added that its future may lie in redevelopment into apartments or housing, subject to planning permission.

“The vendors contacted SDL Auctions North West following our recent success with Incefield House in Wigan that we sold for more than £100,000 above its guide price,” he said.

The Coaching Inn is just one of dozens of lots being offered by SDL Auctions North West on Wednesday 12 September.
