Family festival business has been forced to call in the liquidators
A festival company based in Manchester has gone into liquidation.
Geronimo Festivals held family friendly events at Arley Hall in Cheshire.
The last festival was in May and acts included DJ and former musician Clint Boon along with Justin Fletcher.
Thousands turned out for the festival in May for what was the fourth year of the event. The first festival was first held at Tatton Park in 2015.
Founder Simon Goldman said the festival had been running at a loss and the investors decided ‘they don’t wish to continue with the losses’.
As a result Geronimo Festivals UK Ltd has gone into voluntary liquidation. Artists and performers who worked at the festival have still not been paid.
The festival firm traded from Moston and a meeting to discuss the future of the business was held last week.
As a result the company was wound up voluntarily and Alex Kachani of Crawfords Accountants, Salford, was appointed as liquidator.
Mr Goldman told the Manchester Evening News: “Like with any liquidation, until it’s divided up, we can’t say what people will or won’t get.
“Festivals take five years minimum to break even and it’s a shame because we were so close to breaking even with Arley. Literally it was on the cusp of turning a corner.
“I can understand why people are angry, as I would be and there is a lot of animosity. But there have also been some nice comments from people we’ve worked with over the years who say they’d love to see this first class event take place again.
“Our intention is to run again in 2019 but we’ve got wait until the dust settles. If we’re able to continue then we’d love it but for us, we don’t want to do anything that’s not within the letter of the law and we’ve got to let this thing run its course.
“I do apologise and I’ve apologised personally to a lot of the people involved, but an apology is only going to go so far when people are out of pocket.”
