Low cost airline jet2.com has announced it is looking to recruit 500 new staff based out of Manchester Airport.

The airline, along with sister company Jet2holidays, is planning to increase capacity at Manchester by more than 10 per cent to 2.8 million seats by next summer.

The company has also revealed four new destinations to Bourgas in Bulgaria, Izmir in Turkey, Chania in Crete and La Rochelle in France.

As a result of the expansion the firm is looking to recruit 250 cabin crew and 250 ground operations positions as well as pilots.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This is our biggest ever recruitment drive at Manchester Airport, and once again demonstrates our commitment to investing in our customers and in people’s careers.

“The success of our award-winning business is down to the hard work of our fantastic colleagues, and we are looking forward to meeting passionate people to join our expanding team.”
The growth in Manchester is part of a UK strategy which will create 3,000 jobs across Europe, including 2,000 jobs in the UK.

Julian Carr, aviation director at Manchester Airport, said: “It’s great to see Jet2.com offer so many new roles here at Manchester Airport.

“Not only is it testament to Jet2.com’s commitment to growing at the UK’s third biggest airport, it also highlights the impact Manchester Airport’s continued growth has on the region from, an economic and employment point of view.”

This summer Easyjet announced it was adding five new flights to its operations in Manchester creating 175 new jobs in the process.

The move means that EasyJet will be adding five new routes and will carry an extra 1.5m passengers a year.

The five new destinations are Innsbruck, Lanzarote, Faro, Barcelona and Bordeaux – the 1,000th for the airline.

Meanwhile, a £1bn expansion project is under way at the airport.

Terminal Two will be more than double in size as part of the project, which aims to cut queues, double the amount of jobs and add 10m passengers over the next ten years.
