Businessman is plotting next stage of family empire

Adam Kamani

Manchester is one of the most exciting cities in the world to be doing business – and that’s according to one of the most successful businessmen in the North West.

Adam Kamani is a part of the dynasty that is fast becoming one of the most powerful and successful families in business.

The family is behind two incredibly successful online fashion brands, Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing.

But the secrets of success can be traced back to Adam’s grandfather who set up a market stall after arriving in Manchester, selling handkerchiefs and towels.

Adam’s brothers Samir and Umar both play a major part in the incredible success story.

Not content with conquering the world of online fashion Adam has now turned his attention to property and investing in fast growing tech firms.

The 28-year-old recently married and has the world at his feet but his main focus at the moment is helping to grow the Kamani empire.

He said: “Manchester is an incredibly exciting place to be at the moment, there is no doubt it is one of the most exciting cities, not just in the UK but in the world.

“A large part of my time is spent focusing on the property side of the business and we have interest in the commercial and the office sector.

“A few years ago the focus was very much on London but that is now shifting to Manchester. People want to come to this city to live and work.

“It is great to be a part of a city that is ambitious and always looking forward.”

Adam has always been interested in the world of property and spent several years in New York learning his trade.

Adam says his character has been formed by his upbringing and he cites his father and grandfather as the biggest inspirations in his life.

Adam grew up in a house in Chorlton in South Manchester that was home to 18 people.

And the philosophy that was at the centre of his family has been ingrained into his character and the way he does business.

He said: “It has always been about the work ethic, we were all taught to work hard and give everything our best shot. I have always held onto to that vision and ambition.

“We were taught that if you always try your hardest and you never take no for an answer then you can achieve amazing things.”

He added: “As a family we lived in an environment where we were constantly learning from our parents and our grandparents.

“We sit round and talk about business all the time. We share help and advice and talk about the things that have worked and the things that haven’t worked.”

Adam added: “I have always believed that you are at your most vulnerable when you have got to the stage where you think you are the top of your game.”

“It is impossible to know everything, I am always trying to learn something new and find out ways of doing things better.

“It is important to have the right people around you. If you have people who are great at what they do, then you can learn from them.

“I am incredibly proud of the team we have at the property business and what we have achieved so far.”

The latest venture, KM Capital, was set up with the intention of investing in exciting and ambitious tech companies.

Adam said: “We get a lot of people coming to us with great ideas and products.

“We always take a look at the people behind the business, for me that is the most important thing.

“We are looking for people with ambition, drive and vision – that is the key to creating and building a successful business.”
