Lengthy delays in Manchester after M60 motorway closed in both directions

Motorists are being warned to expect lengthy delays in the Greater Manchester area due to the closure of the M60 in both directions.

The motorway had been closed at Stockport due to a police incident and diversions were put in place.

The motorway was closed clockwise, between J27 and J1 and anti-clockwise between J1 and J25.

According to reports the motorway was reopened a short time later but motorists were warned to expect delays of up to 30 mins.

Diversion routes:

Clockwise: ‘Solid Black Triangle’ route. Leave the M60 clockwise at J26. At M60 J26/ A560 intersection, join A560 WB and follow for 1.2km.

At A560/ A626 Rbt, take the third exit onto A560 (Great Portwood Street) WB and follow for 1.5km.

At A560/ Kind Street Rbt, take the fourth exit onto A5145 (Travis Brow) WB and follow for 1km.

At A5145/ M60 Jct 1 Rbt, take second exit and rejoin M60 clockwise at J1.

Anti-clockwise: ‘Solid Black square’ route. Leave the M60 anti-clockwise at J1. At M60 Jct 1/ A5145 Rbt, take second exit onto A5145 (Travis Brow) EB and follow for 0.8km.

At A5145/ A560 Rbt, take first exit onto A560 EB and follow for 1.5km.

At A560/ M60 J27 Rbt, take third exit onto A560 EB and follow for 2.3km.

At A560/ M60 J25 Rbt, take first exit and rejoin original route at M60 J25 anti-clockwise.

Police have advised motorists to allow extra time for thier journey, should they be travelling in the area.
