Business leaders head into ring for charity

Business Heavyweights

Business Heavyweights, the white-collar boxing event which sees North West business leaders enter the ring to slug it out in aid of worthy local charities, returns this November and tables are nearly sold out.

Sponsored by Boohoo Man, along with Morson Group, and taking place in the Audacious Church arena, Business Heavyweights promises to be a night of blood, tears and triumph, and an unmissable event in the North West corporate calendar.

With only five tables remaining and training well under way, the 12 leaders willing to put their reputations on the line this year have officially been revealed as:
• Giles Chesher, Squire Patton Boggs
• Huw Ohri, EY
• Tony Dickin Palatine Private Equity
• Kevin Doran, AJ Bell
• Simon Keegan, North West Business Insider
• Daniel Burke, Brown Shipley
• Dave McGoff, McGoff Construction
• Tom Weedall, Wells Fargo Capital Finance
• Dan Crossland, Investec
• Paul Fleming, BT
• Steve Flynn, UCFB
• Barry Leahey, Playdale Playgrounds

This year’s event aims to raise at least £150k, which will be split equally between three local charities – the Booth Centre charity for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, national charity for children with severe learning difficulties the Seashell Trust, as well as local community and sports club Manchester Maccabi.

Amanda Croome, CEO at the Booth Centre said: “We rely on external donations in order to help people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness make positive changes and rebuild their lives.

“Our cause is becoming more prominent in the city and we’re very grateful that Business Heavyweights is going to be supporting us this year, alongside two other extremely worthy causes.”

Dominic Tinner, head of fundraising at the Seashell Trust said: “Business Heavyweights is well established in the region and the buzz around this year’s event is already infectious.

“The money raised for our charity will be put towards giving the profoundly disabled children and young people in our care a safe and happy environment to achieve their potential within the community and we’re looking forward to having a ringside view of the action.”

Darryl Lee, life president of Manchester Maccabi said: “We’ve hosted five white-collar boxing events previously and they’ve always been a huge success, but getting involved with Business Heavyweights is going to take things to the next level.

“This year is set to be the biggest yet and our collaborative effort with the other charities is sure to benefit so many people across Manchester and the North West.

“The money raised will go towards our communal facility in Prestwich which continues to provide a sporting and educational base to the North Manchester area.”

This year’s Business Heavyweights event will take place at The Audacious Church on 8th November. The last few remaining tables are available via the website: http://businessheavyweights.co.uk
