Award winning café is launching second venue in Spinningfields

Pot Kettle Black

Fresh from being named the best in Manchester an independent café has opened its second venue in Manchester.

The hugely successful Pot Kettle Black has opened for business in Spinningfields.

The venue was due to open in the summer but has finally opened for business.

The Barton Arcade venue was named best café in the annual Manchester Food and Drink Festival at the start of the week.

And it has now opened its second café at Number 1 Spinningfields – in the heart of the city’s business district.

Pot Kettle Black was launched by rugby league stars Jon Wilkin and Mark Flanagan in 2014.

The new cafe will serve a similar menu, featuring modern twists on classic dishes such as eggs benedict and bacon butties.

And in keeping with current trends there will be a wide range of vegan and gluten free options.

Bread and pastries baked in the recently opened PKB Bakehouse in Barton Arcade will also be served at the new café.

The owners were inspired to open their venue after sampling the cafe culture in cities such as Sydney while playing in Australia,

The duo said: “When it comes to coffee, the Aussies beat us hands-down.

“While we languished in coffee purgatory, Australians and New Zealanders created a coffee culture rooted in ruthless quality rather than convenience. It’s the best on the planet.

“We’ve crafted PKB from the desire to build a company dedicated to the art of brewing the best coffee and cooking vibrant, easy-going food.”

The new coffee shop has been designed in collaboration with Spinningfields developer Allied London and will feature a covered outside seating space in the building’s central walkway.

Rochelle Silverstein, associate director of retail and leisure at Allied London, said: “PKB are the perfect addition to Spinningfields and No.1. We’re really excited to be supporting another dynamic independent, and one that is so loved in the city centre.

“We’ve worked closely with Mark and Jon to design a laid-back and refined interior; somewhere vibrant and welcoming to enjoy the best coffee in the city.”
