Soapworks in Salford

Technology services giant CGI is to set up its new Northern headquarters at Soapworks in Salford, having agreed a five-year lease for 6,866 sq ft.

CGI is the fifth largest independent end-to-end IT and business consulting services firm in the world, with offices throughout the UK.

Soapworks – the iconic former Colgate-Palmolive factory, which sits on an 8.4 acre site in the heart of Salford and adjacent to MediaCityUK – was acquired by Greater Manchester Property Fund’s (GMPF) last year.

It is also home to Stantec – formerly MWH, INNOV8, TalkTalk and The Home Office.

Quoting rental levels at Soapworks are £18.50 per sq ft.

Andrew Rands, associate director at Jones Lang LaSalle, said: “CGI is a cutting-edge tech company and was very impressed by the fantastic amenity on offer, and also by the convenient location of Soapworks, believing that it reflected the image and ethos of the company.”

Mark Baldwin, associate director at GVA and acting on behalf of GMPF, added: “Soapworks has continued to evolve to become an exciting business destination with such close proximity to Manchester city centre, and a dedicated on-site management team that has worked incredibly hard to create an innovative and interesting work space, with outstanding amenities for staff who work there.

“We now have only one suite remaining in the original building and have serious interest from other potential occupiers who are keen to be part of the Soapworks lifestyle.”

JLL acted on behalf of CGI. GVA Advised GMPF.
