Liverpool surveyor is youngest ‘Fellow’ in North West

Matthew Fedigan

A former ‘Young Surveyor of the Year’ winner from Liverpool is the youngest in the North West to have achieved Fellowship status of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).

This makes him one of the youngest Fellows in the organisation’s 150th year history.

Matthew Fedigan, 31 co-founder and director at Domec Professional Services, based on Rodney Street in Liverpool, is part of an elite group of less than 20% of chartered surveyors in the UK who are Fellows of the professional standards organisation – a recognition of a surveyor’s significant career achievements and passion for developing the industry.

The average age of a Fellow of RICS is 67.

In his mid-20s, Matthew’s drive and entrepreneurial talent led to him becoming one of two founding directors of Domec Professional Services, a buildings consultancy that delivers surveying, architecture, mechanical engineering, building safety and related legal solutions for a wide range of commercial clients nationally.

The business has grown rapidly and boasts clients across the North, Midlands and London, including hotel groups, universities and leading institutions, funds, property investors and charities.

At the age of 27 Matthew became the youngest professional to chair the RICS North West regional board, responsible for reflecting the views of approximately 10,000 professionals, and providing leadership on a range of objectives to set and improve standards in the local property industry, over a three-year term.

Matthew has also developed the Property Pledge initiative, which seeks to bring together businesses, NFP’s and property owners who are able to gift property for use by property industry charity, LandAid, to turn into homes for the young homeless.

The Property Pledge has attracted the attention of major business leaders nationally and of council leaders in major cities.

Matthew has also donated more than £20,000-worth of Domec Professional Services’ expertise on a pro-bono basis to this initiative.

Other commitments include his role as an APC supervisor. This involves providing support for surveyors in the region who are undertaking the RICS’ Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to achieve chartered status.

Matthew said: “I’m delighted that RICS has recognised my career achievements and contribution to the surveying profession.

“Carrying the FRICS designation after my name is a great way of demonstrating my skills, knowledge and experience to clients and peers and will help me with my future career progression.”

Victoria Hampson, RICS regional director, North & Midlands, said: “Matthew is an exceptional property expert and role model who has made a remarkable contribution to our property markets and wider profession.

“I’m delighted he is now part of an exclusive class of chartered surveyor, which will open doors and a wealth of opportunities for him.”
