Work starts on six storey office block

Stockport Exchange

Work has started on a brand-new office block in Stockport city centre.

Two Stockport Exchange will be a new 60,000 sq ft Grade A office building in the heart of the town’s new business district.

The new six-storey office building is being constructed next to 1 Stockport Exchange, with GMI Construction Group appointed as the main contractor.

The building is the next stage of work to get off the ground at the £145m flagship office scheme, which is being delivered in partnership between Stockport Council and national urban regeneration and development specialists, Muse Developments.

Stockport Exchange is part of an ambitious regeneration programme that is transforming Stockport town centre.

Sitting next to Stockport’s rail station, with access to many locations across the UK, Stockport Exchange has proven highly popular.

The new Holiday Inn Express Hotel has opened and is trading extremely well since its completion in 2016.

Greg Ball, development surveyor at Muse Developments, said: “This is yet another significant milestone in the evolution of Stockport Exchange and it’s exciting to be celebrating the start of construction on this latest scheme, which will complement the successful previous phases.

“This development will further reinforce Stockport Exchange as South Manchester’s new preeminent business location and we’re looking forward to seeing construction progress over the coming months.”

Kate Butler, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “We’re ambitious for Stockport and the continuing development of a new commercial quarter at Stockport Exchange plays a major role in our whole town plan.

“Stockport Exchange is performing exceptionally well and we fully expect further success will follow with another, highly sought after building of Grade A office space at Two Stockport Exchange.

“We’re proud of Stockport’s progress and our growing reputation for solid economic development; all cementing our position as one of the North West’s leading business locations.”

Marc Banks, commercial director at GMI Construction Group plc, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our strong relationship with Muse and Stockport Council, and starting work on this major development.

“This scheme will further enhance Stockport’s new central business district and we’re pleased to be part of the team creating a new gateway to Stockport town centre.”

Two Stockport Exchange is due to complete in February 2020.

Once complete, the wider Stockport Exchange development will deliver up to 375,000 sq ft of office space and 28,000 sq ft of commercial floor space.

Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE are joint agents for the scheme.
