Merseyside’s only Michelin starred restaurant to close its doors

Fraiche

Merseyside’s only Michelin starred restaurant is to close its doors.

Marc Wilkinson, the owner and chef at Fraiche in Birkenhead, has revealed that the building which houses his restaurant has been put up for sale.

Mr Wilkinson will serve his last customers at Oxton on December 14th but has promised to reopen elsewhere.

The restaurant – which was named the best in the UK by the Sunday Times in 2014 – has held a Michelin star since 2009.

Mr Wilkinson said: “The building is for sale, but Fraiche is safe.  We will reopen next year. I can’t reveal a location just yet, but we are in talks.”

He added: “Right now everything is me: the food, the decor, the wine list, the music… I wouldn’t want to open a 100 cover restaurant, it’s just not me.”

“There’s one reason Fraiche has survived for so long, and that’s because I’m so cheap.”

Meanwhile, hopes are growing that Manchester could finally end its wait for a Michelin starred restaurant.

Manchester House is to reopen with chef Aiden Byrne back in the kitchen.

Aiden was the youngest ever chef to win a Michelin star and he is returning to a venture he originally launched.

He has parted company with 20 Stories and is moving across Spinningfields to the restaurant which closed its doors last month.

Manchester House went into administration last month along with its sister venue Artisan.

The owners Living Ventures said they had struggled with rising costs and high rents.
