Direct flights to New York from region increase by 40%

Manchester Airport

The arrival of a new plane means that United Airlines is increasing the number of passengers it can fly from Manchester to New York.

The American airline is increasing capacity by 40% from this summer.

The increase is down to the arrival of the wide-body Boeing 767-400 in Manchester replacing the 169-seater Boeing 757-200 currently operating the route.

United’s 767-400 aircraft is configured with a total of 240 seats – 39 flat-bed seats in United Polaris business class and 201 seats in United Economy, including 70 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space.

Bob Schumacher, managing director sales UK and Ireland, said: “The introduction of the Boeing 767-400 aircraft is the most significant increase in capacity on our nonstop Manchester – New York/Newark service in over a decade and underscores our commitment to Manchester and the North-West of England.

“With a more than 40 per cent increase in total capacity, our customers in the North-West will benefit from a wide body, twin-aisle service to New York City, and connections on to hundreds of other destinations throughout the Americas via United’s New York/Newark hub.”

United has been serving Manchester for over 20 years and today offers daily non-stop year-round services to its New York/Newark hub.

Flights are timed to connect with an extensive network of onward connections to destinations throughout the Americas.

United operates the largest hub in the New York City metropolitan area at Newark Liberty International Airport, serving more destinations from the area than any other carrier.

Located just 14 miles from downtown Manhattan, the airport offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, with a journey time of less than 30 minutes.

The airline operates approximately 400 daily flights out of its Newark hub to over 160 destinations across the US and internationally.
