New affordable homes set for Carrington

Crampton Lane, Carrington, site plan

Plans have been submitted for the development of 59 affordable homes at Crampton Lane in Carrington, Trafford.

A full planning application has been submitted to Trafford Borough Council by Lancashire planning consultancy De Pol Associates on behalf of North West housing association, One Vision Housing.

Designed by Condy Lofthouse Architects, proposals for the £9.7m redevelopment of a five-acre site involves a mix of 35 houses and 24 apartments.

The One Vision Housing development will consist of 16 three-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom semi-detached homes, plus the 24 apartments.

The homes are designed to respond directly to local housing need, as identified in latest reports from the council’s Housing Strategy.

Chris Betteridge, from De Pol Associates, said: “We have worked closely with our client and the local authority to design a scheme which will meet the needs of people in the local area, focusing on both family homes and apartments.

“Carrington has been identified as a key strategic location for the delivery of new homes within Trafford, and there are major schemes coming forward for this area already.

“This plot is allocated for housing and this plan would complement those other developments, serving to support the community with the provision of 59 more affordable homes.”

The site is currently home to a mix of garages, storage buildings and stables, with some equestrian grazing land.

The northern side is bounded by the River Mersey, alongside which will be a ‘green buffer’.

The development would also make provision for each house to have two off-road parking spaces.

All 59 homes will be available for the community at an affordable level, offering options for rent or shared ownership.

This is the first development in Trafford for One Vision Housing, based in Bootle, north Liverpool, which is investing more than £110m to deliver 1,100 new affordable homes across the region between 2018 and 2021.

One Vision Housing currently owns 13,000 homes across Sefton, Liverpool, Wirral, Cheshire and West Lancashire.

Louise Davies, development director at One Vision Housing, said: “Carrington is our first site in Trafford and we are pleased to bring our affordable housing programme to this area, in particular the ‘pathway to ownership’ model.

“This proposal would provide local people with much-needed new homes and a range of options to help them get onto the housing ladder if they wish.

“We have brought together an excellent project team to design and deliver a high quality development which will help to meet this local housing need. We hope to progress with the development early this year.”
