Work has started on a multi-million pound development in South Liverpool on a former school site.

The scheme in Speke will comprise 119 two, three and four-bedroom homes. It is being delivered by South Liverpool Homes (SLH) with funding from Homes England and will be built on a site on Greenway Road.

The mixed tenure development, by house builder Keepmoat Homes, comprises 109 homes for affordable rent and 10 homes for rent to buy.

The development will be a first for South Liverpool Homes with the use of modular homes.

An initial four homes will be built off-site by ilke Homes, with the potential of a further 22 homes, before being transported to the development.

Julie Fadden, chief executive at SLH, said: “The Greenway development is a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to meet the housing needs of future generations in South Liverpool. Not only is it our biggest single housing development in Speke, it will also see the first modular homes built for South Liverpool Homes and we will be very excited to see the homes handover in spring 2019.

“Creating training and employment opportunities is a given on a development of this scale and we are looking forward to working with Keepmoat Homes to create multi-skilled opportunities for the local community and developing much need skills for the industry.”

Gareth Roberts, regional managing director at Keepmoat Homes, added: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with South Liverpool Homes to deliver these new homes.

“We’re also pleased to be working with ilke Homes to bring modern methods of construction to this development, in the form of modular house building.  This process complements the traditional building process enabling us to increase the pace of site delivery and accelerate the creation of new homes.”

The homes are expected to be completed by spring 2021 and are part of South Liverpool Homes’ plans to build over 240 new homes by 2021 for affordable rent, shared ownership and rent to buy across South Liverpool.
