Stobart Group unveils new board appointment with non-executive director

David Blackwood

Stobart Group, the aviation, energy and civil engineering business, has today appointed David Blackwood as non-executive director.

Mr Blackwood is currently a non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee at Dignity and Scapa Group.

He was previously chief financial officer of Synthomer from 2007 to 2015, and held a number of senior roles with ICI.

He will be a member of the audit, remuneration and nomination committees on appointment and become chairman of the audit committee this June.

Mr Blackwood will succeed Andrew Wood who will not put himself forward for re-election at the 2019 AGM after almost six years on the board.

Iain Ferguson, non-executive chairman of Cumbria-based Stobart Group, said: “I am delighted that David is joining the board of Stobart Group.

“He will bring a wealth of experience which will stand the board in good stead as we continue to implement our ambitious growth plans and provide the framework for delivery of the company’s strategy.

“I also want to thank Andrew Wood for his diligence and commitment to the group over many years as a non-executive director, senior independent director and chairman of the audit committee.”

In July last year Mr Ferguson made a commitment to review the structure of the group’s board after a bruising public battle with former chief executive Andrew Tinkler, who had launched an unsuccessful bid to oust Mr Ferguson and replace him with North West tycoon Philip Day.

Following the July AGM Mr Ferguson announced plans to review the composition of the Stobart board, including a vow for him to step down before this year’s AGM.
