Chairman of NW jewellery chain appointed High Sheriff of Greater Manchester
The chairman of Lancashire-based Beaverbrooks has been chosen to become the next High Sheriff of Greater Manchester.
At a special ceremony in Buckingham Palace, Mark Adlestone was formally appointed when, in accordance with ancient tradition, Her Majesty the Queen took a bodkin, or blunt needle, and ceremonially pricked a hole through Mr Adlestone's name on a specially-prepared parchment, known as 'The Lites'.
His appointment coincides with the centenary year for Beaverbrooks, which is based in Lytham St Annes.
