Bury sports fashion chain JD Sports has bought the Pretty Green fashion brand founded by Oasis star Liam Gallagher.

The clothes chain called in administrators last week, putting 180 jobs at risk.

The sale includes the brand, online and wholesale business, as well as a flagship store in Manchester, securing the future of 67 employees.

The remaining 11 stores and 33 House of Fraser concessions will cease trading immediately, affecting 97 employees. The administrators are working to assist all those involved.

“We are pleased to have completed the acquisition of the highly regarded Pretty Green brand,” said Peter Cowgill, executive chairman of JD Sports.

“We look forward to working with the team on future positive developments.”

Simon Thomas, partner at administrators Moorfields, said: “Pretty Green is a popular brand and received a considerable amount of interest.

“We are confident that JD Sports is the right fit for the business and will help to grow its online and wholesale channels.”

Manchester law firm Addleshaw Goddard advised JD Sports on the acquisition of Pretty Green.

The Addleshaw Goddard team was led by Tim Taylor, with Barry Davies and Jason Scott.

Moorfields Advisory was advised by CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang.

Tim Taylor, partner at Addleshaw Goddard, said: “We are pleased to have advised JD Sports on this acquisition of a highly-regarded brand, which has helped to secure the best possible outcome for the Pretty Green business in light of challenging circumstances.”

Earlier this month Addleshaw Goddard advised JD Sports on its proposed £90m acquisition of Footasylum and last year advised the client on its £400m acquisition of US athletic retailer Finish Line.
