Trafford Centre owner appoints interim CFO

The owner of the Trafford centre and the Arndale Centre has appointed an interim chief financial officer.

Intu, the largest owner and manager of prime shopping centres in the UK, has announced that Barbara Gibbes will become interim chief financial officer.

The previous incumbent, Matthew Roberts, replaced David Fischel as chief executive earlier this month.

Mr Roberts has been chief financial officer at Intu since 2010. Before that he was the CFO of bingo halls and betting shops operator Gala Coral.

Mr Fischel announced he was standing down last summer after 17 years in the role.

The company has been the subject of two failed takeover bids in the last 12 months.

The interim role will not be a board position.

Barbara Gibbes, a qualified chartered accountant, joined intu as director of finance in January 2017 from Domino’s Pizza Group where she was group financial controller.

Previously she held other senior finance roles and was a director at Deloitte.

The process to recruit a permanent CFO is under way and will include internal and external candidates.

Hugh Ford, general counsel and group treasurer, will continue to report to Matthew Roberts, chief executive designate, on all financing and treasury matters.
