Well-known Manchester nightclub closes doors without warning

Birdcage

A popular Manchester city nightclub has closed its doors.

The Birdcage which is close to the Arndale Shopping Centre and Printworks venue closed its doors without any warning.

The club, which was popular with stag and hen nights, has been trading for the last 13 years.

The club was known for its cabaret nights on Saturdays which featured flamboyant drag acts and dancers.

A member of the venue’s marketing team confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that the venue has closed.

The club has contacted customers to advise them that bookings have been cancelled. People have been told that they will be refunded.

The Withy Grove venue underwent a £400,000 refurbishment two years ago.

Manchester has seen a number of bars and venues close over the last 12 months due to the downturn in spending.

Last summer the MAD group which owned venues across the Northern Quarter ceased trading with the loss of 120 jobs.
